Overview

I am a pediatric respirologist with an interest in clinical research. I am particularly interested in studying rare diseases of the lungs and airways in children, and investigating patterns and determinants of these diseases within our population (epidemiology). Epidemiological research helps us to understand how many children have a specific disease and whether this number is changing over time, which can be used to shape health policy and ensure that affected children receive the care that they need.

I am currently the lead investigator of the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit national surveillance study of Pierre Robin sequence (PRS), a condition which can cause upper airway obstruction in early infancy. This study is investigating the number of babies born each year with PRS in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the types of breathing support that affected children need, and their health related outcomes at 1 year of age.

My other areas of research interest include the long-term respiratory health of children after organ transplantation and the use of continuous glucose monitoring devices for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis related diabetes.
