My primary are of research interest is in the management of Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome. For over a decade our Clinical Pathway program has developed and revised a provincial pathway for nephrotic syndrome management. Based on our own research and external literature, we are continually aiming to improve care for children with this condition. My focus is on optimizing improvement in quality of life for families dealing with this syndrome.
I am also involved in other pathway developing groups establishing multidisciplinary management guidelines for both pediatric hypertension and renal anomalies (including hydronephrosis, cystic and/or dysplastic kidneys, solitary kidneys).

Current Projects
We are currently developing a diagnostic and management pathway for physicians in BC to address the finding of high blood pressures in pediatric patients in BC. This pathway is being developed in collaboration with local pediatric nephrologists, general pediatricians, and pediatric nephrology nurses and dietitians. To help guide how the information and tools will be presented to families, currently I am the Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. Janis Dionne on a study that is looking at the impressions of pediatric patients and their families that are being evaluated and treated for hypertension.
From the work that our pediatric nephrology team has done with the development and utilization of a Nephrotic Syndrome pathway guideline, I will be reporting on the safety and use of albumin in the treatment of edema in patients with nephrotic syndrome.
I am also working with one of our recently graduated nephrology fellows on reporting the uptick in the cases of TINU (Tubulo-Interstitial Nephritis and Uveitis) that has occurred in BC in the past several years. This condition was rarely seen in BC pre-pandemic, but there were several cases in the past several years. We are consolidating our BC cohort in hopes of raising awareness of this diagnosis given the increased incidence.Honours & AwardsBC Patient Safety and Quality Council – 2019 Quality Award Winner.
