Using chicken embryos, BC researchers develop new approach for difficult-to-treat cancers

BC Children’s Hospital investigators Dr. James Lim and Dr. Phillip Lange appeared on CTV News to discuss a new strategy to find a therapy for hard-to-treat childhood cancers.

“What we’ve done here is take a small piece of the child’s tumour and implanted it on embryonic chicken eggs, which provides that environment which feeds the tumour and allows it grow,” says Dr. Lim. “And then we can actually drug it and understand the response to that treatment.”
