The Living Lab at Home<\/h1>

The \u201cLiving Lab at Home\u201d (LLAH) offers a novel approach to real-time home-based data collection that will expand access to research participation for a wide range of children and youth with developmental and behavioural disabilities, as well as typically developing children with chronic illnesses.<\/p><\/a><\/div>\n

Dr. Tim Oberlander’s<\/a> research at BC Children\u2019s Hospital and BC Women\u2019s Hospital + Health Centre bridges developmental neurosciences and community child health. This research focuses on studies of how early life experience related to maternal mood disturbances during pregnancy shapes how infants and children deal with stress. <\/p>

Dr. Oberlander’s research questions extend from genetic studies to population-level studies that seek to understand early life pathways reflecting developmental risk and resiliency during early childhood. His research shows that the developing brain has a remarkable capacity for change, such that even in the face of adversity, some children do very well. <\/p>

Emerging findings are now beginning to shape the ways clinicians and families understand critical issues that influence a child\u2019s emotional well-being and success later in school. After almost 20 yrs of work his group is now studying behavioral and developmental outcomes (stress regulation) at 15 to 18 years of age.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n
