Dzung X. Vo, MD, is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine, and a Clinical Associate Professor and Division Head of the Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, at BC Children’s Hospital and the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His main clinical and research areas of interest are in stress and health, resilience, care and advocacy with vulnerable and marginalized adolescents, integrative health, and mindfulness-based interventions with youth and with health care professionals.
Dr. Vo is the author of The Mindful Teen: Powerful Skills to Help You Handle Stress One Moment at a Time. Dr. Vo serves on the Board of Directors for the Mindfulness in Education Network (MiEN). He is the founding Director of the BC Children’s Hospital Centre for Mindfulness, which has the vision of supporting “Mindful community, compassionate care” throughout BC Children’s Hospital and beyond.

The Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders Program for Children & Adolescents, based at BC Children’s Hospital, employs evidence-based therapies in the treatment of youth with eating disorders. As the medical director, I am involved in creating treatment guidelines for the hospital and the province, and reviewing outcomes of youth receiving treatment in this program. I am also interested in the medical complications in youth who develop eating disorders and how we can better monitor and treat these complications. Our research team is led by Dr. Jennifer Coelho.

Dr. Sara Jassemi obtained her medical degree at the University of British Columbia in 2013, and completed her general pediatrics residency at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary in 2016. She completed her subspecialty training in Adolescent Medicine in 2018 at the Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto. Dr. Jassemi works as an Adolescent Medicine Pediatrician at BC Children’s Hospital and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. She has an interest in quality improvement and is the recipient of a Hudson Scholarship from the Department of Pediatrics at BC Children’s Hospital to pursue a dedicated QI project to improve the inter-professional collaboration around patients with unstable eating disorders on an acute medical unit. Her research areas of interest include transyouth health, medical education, and clinician wellness. When she is not in the hospital, you can find her cycling, cooking, or taking care of an 11-year-old Newfoundland dog at home.
Dr. Andrea Wallace

Dr. Andrea Wallace is an Adolescent Medicine Pediatrician and Clinical Instructor in the Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital and University of British Columbia. She graduated from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University and completed her Pediatric Residency at Western University before moving to the University of British Columbia to complete her fellowship in Adolescent Medicine. She is passionate about supporting youth with chronic illnesses in independently managing their health and successfully transitioning to adult care. She is the Transition Lead for the Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine and an active member of the Child Health Canada Health Hub in Transition. Her other research and teaching interests include positive youth development and youth engagement, particularly of youth with chronic illnesses.

Dr. James Wang
MD
Dr. James Wang is a current fellow in the Division of Adolescent Health and Medicine. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia and received his medical degree with honours from Cornell University. His research interests relate to the physical and mental health of youth in out-of-home care, including foster care and kinship care. He is the recipient of the 2021 Canadian Pediatric Society Award for Excellence (fellow category) and Adolescent Health Research Award. His research mentor is Dr. Sheila Marshall.
