Substance use

The Knowledge to Action Lab focuses primarily on research and resources for children/youth and families living on the neurodiversity spectrum, but it is not limited to these fields.

The Emerging and Investigational Products for Opioid use disorder: Characterizing use in Hospital (EPOCH) study retrospectively analyzed the implementation of emerging pharmaceutical treatments for patients with opioid use disorder at St. Paul’s Hospital. A manuscript is currently in preparation that outlines the implementation process, the barriers and facilitators to implementation, and recommendations for other sites who are preparing to implement similar innovations.

Dr. Glegg, in partnership with Tara Taylor, was awarded a $25,000 CUES grant from UBC for their work with Jeffrey Morgan on the Overdose Prevention Peer Research Assistant (OPPRA) Project. 

The OPPRA Project is a collaborative partnership between the University of British Columbia, the Overdose Prevention Society, BC Centre on Substance Use, and the SpencerCreo Foundation. It started in 2019 with funding from the Vancouver Foundation and the research was community-based participatory research with the goal of partnering with people with lived/living experience in overdose response in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES) to address their priority research questions. All parties were involved in the co-design, co-conduct, and co-mobilization of this research.

The BC ECHO on Substance Use is a province-wide community of practice designed to strengthen primary care providers’ capacity to treat and manage substance use disorders. It does so through monthly Project ECHO sessions and a monthly newsletter that shares information about SUD-related events, resources, and news. The work is further supported by the Addiction Practice Pod, the BCCSU’s podcast focused on substance use disorder care.
