Who we are
The Glegg Knowledge to Action Lab is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Stephanie Glegg, OT, PhD. Our team aims to provide an inclusive space that fosters meaningful research partnerships with people with a range of expertise, including lived/living experience. What we do
The Glegg Knowledge to Action Lab focuses primarily on health services research in the field of implementation science and knowledge translation.
Knowledge translation (mobilization) is the process of moving knowledge into action to improve health outcomes, health care services, and the health care system.
Implementation science is the study of this process, which may involve supporting the uptake of clinical best practices, policy change, community action, and/or health care innovation.
We study the factors that help and hinder the adoption of health care best practices and innovations, and test interventions to support their uptake. Our work is about ensuring that research, health providers’ experience, the lived/living experience and preferences of clients and families, community perspectives, and other ways of knowing can be moved into action to improve the health and the health care system.
Where we work
We work in health care centres, in community, in policy – wherever knowledge and innovation can improve health. Our lab is located at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, where Dr. Glegg is an Investigator. Dr. Glegg also works on campus at UBC Vancouver as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, teaching in the Master of Occupational Therapy program and the Rehabilitation Sciences Graduate Research program.
How we work
We partner on research with people with lived/living experience, health care providers, community partners, policy makers, industry developers, and/or others who will benefit from or be impacted by the research, and/or whose expertise can strengthen the work. We value interdisciplinary research, where diverse perspectives come together to build innovative solutions.
Some of our work is designed to help address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. We are committed to reconcili-action. As a person from settler ancestry, Dr. Glegg partners with Indigenous research team members (e.g., co-leads, family members/caregivers, Wisdom Translators, Elders, scholars, community members) and organizations to address shared, Indigenous-driven goals. Their collective teachings and guidance have been invaluable in her ongoing journey to learn how to decolonize her work.
We acknowledge that we are located on the homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the unceded traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nations). As researchers, we are grateful for this opportunity and recognize that we have an ethical responsibility to do no harm, and to use the privilege we have to journey alongside equity-denied groups to centre their voices and to work together for the greater good.
