Dr. Stephanie Glegg

OT, PhD, Assistant Professor, UBC

Dr. Glegg is a pediatric occupational therapist and an implementation scientist. She strives to move knowledge into action in a way that is accessible for all. Her pragmatic research approach helps to:
• Develop infrastructure for implementing knowledge and innovation;
• Understand and support connections within and outside of the health care systems;
• Build capacity in knowledge translation and implementation science; and
• Create opportunities for people with lived and living experience to drive research. 

Dr. Glegg has 15+ years of research experience in the field of knowledge translation, focusing on how research evidence is, and is not, implemented into health care, community, and policy settings. She uses social network analysis to study how social factors impact how evidence is used by organizations, communities, and policy makers. Most of her research is in the field of child development and rehabilitation. Other areas include technology adoption, service delivery model evaluation, substance use and harm reduction, acute care, and community-engaged research. A list of publications can be found here.

Dr. Glegg is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, and an Investigator at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. She is a Scientific Co-Director of the CHILD-BRIGHT SPOR Network, and co-leads its Knowledge Mobilization Program. She is also a funded Investigator with Kids Brain Health Network and an Affiliate Investigator with the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

Kate Ortwein

Research Coordinator, KidsAction Coaching & CHILD-BRIGHT KM Program

Kate (she/her) works as a Research Coordinator in the Glegg Lab for the KidsAction Coaching project and as a Communications and Knowledge Mobilization Assistant for the CHILD-BRIGHT Network. After completing her BA at the University of Victoria, Kate pursued work as an Outdoor Educator on Hornby Island, providing youth with the opportunity to get outside and learn about themselves and the natural world, and managing the associated Non-Profit Organization. Her education in Psychology and Professional Writing and Communications and work over the last 10+ years as a leader of youth cemented the importance of making research accessible through communication. Kate joined Dr. Glegg’s team to learn more about the field of knowledge translation and implementation science and focus her interest in writing on disseminating research and synthesizing information so it can more easily be moved into practice.

Genevieve Sutherns

Lab Manager & Research Coordinator

Genevieve (she/her) holds a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Master of Management from the University of British Columbia. During her studies, she completed a directed research project focused on substance use implementation evaluation. She is particularly drawn to implementation science for its real-world applicability across healthcare domains and its alignment with her passion for bringing ideas to life. Before joining the Glegg Lab, Genevieve co-founded a social enterprise, where her interest in execution and implementation first took root. Her transition into implementation science feels like a natural evolution—blending her scientific curiosity with a drive to create meaningful, actionable change in healthcare. Outside of her professional pursuits, Genevieve proudly embraces her role as the “fun aunt,” and enjoys hiking and discovering new restaurants around Vancouver.

Vivian Wong

Research Coordinator

Vivian (she/her) has recently completed her MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences at UBC and in collaboration with Sunny Hill Health Centre at BC Children’s Hospital. Under Dr. Glegg’s supervision, her thesis used implementation science to increase community pediatricians’ use of early diagnostic guidelines to support children’s best potential through timely CP-specific early intervention and services. Currently Vivian supports the Research@Slocan initiative to co-establish a program of research at the new Slocan Site Centre for Children with Health Complexity. Working together with the Slocan Redevelopment team, BCCHR investigators, patient and family partners, they will identify priority research themes and create an approach to embed research alongside clinical care. The result will be an innovative and world-leading research program firmly established within the new Centre for Health Complexity.

Emma Haight

Research Coordinator, Indigenous-Driven Community-Based Supports for Disability, Connecting for Care, KidsAction Coaching & CHILD-BRIGHT KM

Emma (she/her) completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of British Columbia, where she developed a strong interest in mental health and systems of care. She is currently a research coordinator on the Indigenous-Driven Community-Based Supports for Disability project, which aims to identify and strengthen supports for Indigenous children and youth with disabilities, work that resonates deeply with her interest in contributing to meaningful change. Emma also supports a number of other projects within the Glegg Lab. She’s particularly interested in equity and cultural safety in health care and is excited about contributing to research that bridges gaps between knowledge and practice. Outside of research, she enjoys skiing, hiking, and cooking.

Gillian Backlin

Research Assistant, CHILD-BRIGHT KM & KidsAction Coaching

Gillian (she/her) is a research assistant in the Glegg Lab, where she contributes to projects that focus on inclusive community engagement. She enjoys working in environments where she can contribute skills that extend beyond her lived experience, allowing her to bring both professional expertise and personal insight to the work. Gillian is especially drawn to knowledge mobilization and implementation science for their practical value and potential to bridge the gap between research and real-world impact. She enjoys being part of the healthcare field, where she can support meaningful and inclusive change. She has a certificate in technical writing and brings a strong attention to detail to her work, ensuring that her communications are clear and accessible. Gillian is also pursuing a Bachelor of Public Health at the University of Victoria, with a focus on disability advocacy, health equity, and inclusive policy. Outside of her academic and research work, Gillian enjoys working on creative projects and dotes on her French Bulldog, AJ. She’s always up for sipping on the perfect cup of coffee.

Morgan Flynn

Research Assistant, Parent Voices & C&W Implementation Projects

Morgan Flynn (she/her) is a Registered Physiotherapist with an MSc in Rehabilitation Science and a BSc in Exercise Science. Her journey to research was shaped by her time competing as a varsity athlete while wearing face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. This experience directly inspired her MSc project to investigate the effects of face masks on cardiopulmonary parameters during exercise. Through this work, Morgan developed a strong appreciation for participant-engaged research and its potential to inform meaningful change in healthcare delivery. To strengthen her ability to translate evidence into practice, she pursued physiotherapy training, gaining valuable clinical insight. Her role in the Knowledge to Action lab allows her to apply a clinical lens to research findings, creating practical tools and resources for use in care. Her goal is to help streamline healthcare systems and bridge the gap between evidence and practice. Outside of work, she’s an avid hiker and golfer, spending much of her summer exploring BC’s trails and fairways.

Sophie Sajjadi

Research Assistant, CHILD-BRIGHT KM Program, KidsAction Coaching

Sophie (she/her) holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, where she developed a strong interest in health, movement, and community. She joined the CHILD-BRIGHT Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Program after volunteering in the lab with the KidsAction project, and now supports clinician outreach, program evaluation, and social network analysis to improve knowledge translation in pediatric health systems across Canada. With experience in both academic research and patient-facing roles, Sophie offers a perspective that blends scientific thinking with patient-centered care. Her past work spans biomechanics research, systematic reviews, crisis support, and community advocacy, each sharpening her skill in translating complex information into accessible insights. Outside of work, Sophie finds joy in nature and physical activity, having competed for Team BC in rock climbing. She continues to enjoy outdoor adventures to stay grounded and inspired.

Elise Hugens

Research Assistant, KidsAction Coaching & CHILD-BRIGHT KM Program

Elise (she/her) holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology from the University of British Columbia, where she also played as a goaltender for the varsity women’s ice hockey team. During her undergraduate years, she volunteered with SuperHEROS Hockey, a program that teaches children with disabilities how to skate and play hockey. This experience sparked a deep interest in adaptive sport and inclusive physical activity and inspired her long-term goal of becoming a pediatric occupational therapist. Elise is particularly excited about the opportunity to support KidsAction research and knowledge mobilization projects, as they align closely with her passion for making physical activity accessible and enjoyable for all kids. Outside of work, Elise enjoys staying active — especially hiking with her dog and playing pickleball with friends.

Zoe Pagonis

PhD Student & Graduate Academic Assistant, Working on Indigenous Care Navigation, KidsAction, Interactive Tech, C&W Implementation Projects

Zoe Pagonis is a PhD student at the University of British Columbia with a background in rehabilitation sciences and psychology. Her research uses mixed methods approaches to examine family and youth experiences accessing disability, mental health, and addictions services. As part of her doctoral work, Zoe works in partnership with Indigenous families who have children with neurodevelopmental disabilities to support improved access to disability care through patient navigation. Her research explores how service pathways and system-level factors shape family experiences of accessing appropriate and specialized supports. Beyond academia, Zoe teaches multiple styles of dance to children, youth, and young adults and is deeply committed to creating inclusive learning environments for her students.

Anton Santos

Anton (he/him) is an MSc student in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Following completion of his BSc (Combined Major in Science) from UBC, Anton joined the Glegg Knowledge to Action Lab to explore his interests in knowledge translation and implementation science. His contributions span multiple projects including Connecting for Care, KidsAction Coaching, CHILD-BRIGHT Social Network Analysis, and Parent Voices. This involvement has cultivated his research interests in implementation science, knowledge translation, community engagement, and e-health. He is eager to contribute meaningfully to the field of implementation science through his master’s thesis, under the supervision of Dr. Glegg.
