Help Shape Diabetes Care in BC

Children, youth, and families living with diabetes have an important role in shaping the work of the Diabetes Transformation Project. We want to work together to improve diabetes care, education, and research in ways that reflect what matters most to families.

Here, you can explore current opportunities to get involved. Some opportunities involve:

  • Sharing feedback
  • Attending events
  • Participating in research
  • Joining advisory activities

Current Opportunities

The BC Pediatric Diabetes Registry, or BC-PDR, is a database that stores information from clinic
visits and blood tests for children and youth living with diabetes across BC.

The registry helps doctors, nurses, and researchers learn more about diabetes. It can help improve
care, find better ways to support families, and show where care can be improved.

As the registry grows, we want families to help shape how it is used. We also want families to help us
learn how we can explain the registry in clear and easy-to-understand ways.

We are holding an event where children, youth, parents, caregivers, and researchers can come together
to talk about the future of the registry.

What does participation involve?

Join an online group session to share your thoughts and ideas about how the BC-PDR can help
improve diabetes care for children, youth, and families in British Columbia.

Who can participate?

  • Youth and young adults living with diabetes (ages 16-25)
  • Parents and caregivers of children and youth living with diabetes who receive care in British Columbia

The Intelligent Care Platform (ICP) Trial is a research study exploring a new digital tool to support
type 1 diabetes care.

The platform is designed to help families and healthcare teams share information, prepare for clinic
visits, and support diabetes management.

People who join the study may use the platform as part of their clinical care. They will also be invited
to complete surveys and participate in interviews about their experience.

What families share will help us learn how digital tools can better support children and youth living
with type 1 diabetes.

What does participation involve?

  • Use the platform during and between clinic visits over a 12-month period
  • Complete surveys and interviews about your experience
  • Share data from your diabetes devices with your healthcare team
  • Receive a gift card as a thank you for your time

Who can participate?

Children and youth living with type 1 diabetes who are patients at the Diabetes Clinic at BC
Children’s Hospital, and their parents or caregivers, who meet the study criteria.
