My research uses data within the Electronic Health Record that, when combined with a team approach to systemic change, can guide and drive improvements in our health care system’s efficiency and quality. I also have a strong interest how best to relieve anxiety in pediatric patients around the time of a major surgery or procedure, whether it’s through distraction, education, or medication. Thirdly, our anesthetic practice of Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) is world-leading in many respects - I am very interested in promoting the practice and educating the rest of the specialty about the benefits of TIVA, especially as it is practiced at BCCH.

AdaptX Powered Ophthalmology Efficiency Pilot (APOEP)

Using data within the EMR, we will improve intraoperative workflows by highlighting best practices trialed through iterative PDSA cycles. A team-based approach encompassing all clinical stakeholders will help with education and sustainment of concepts and improvements gained. Balancing measures such as postoperative quality indicators will be studied to ensure patient experiences remain excellent. This model can be applied to other data-based projects looking at quality and outcomes.
