We Maintain BCCHR Buildings, Infrastructures, and Grounds

The research facilities on the Oak Street campus comprise more than 350,000 square feet. The Research Facilities department is responsible for overseeing operations, health and safety, space management, renovations, and access to research areas throughout the Oak Street campus.

The Research Facilities department provides a broad range of services that support the functionality, safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the buildings, infrastructures, and grounds at BCCHR. Research Facilities provides occupant services for 1,500+ research faculty, trainees, and personnel and oversees the planning, maintenance, and operations for six buildings on the Oak Street campus.

The Oak Street campus is home to BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Sunny Hill Health Centre, Djavad Mowafaghian Child Care Centre, Ronald McDonald House, Healthy Minds Centre, and more.

Occupational Health & Safety

Research Facilities hosts mandatory fire safety information sessions twice annually for the BCCHR research community. Chemical safety workshops are available on an as-requested basis.

We provide documents, information, and other resources related to waste disposal and handling, lab inspection, chemical spill clean-up protocol, biosafety training, and more.

Education & Training Facilities + Research Space

BCCHR’s educational facilities include the 205-seat Chan Centre for Family Health Education and the Chieng Family Atrium. These facilities provide seminar and education rooms for our researchers and trainees, as well as other health professionals from BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, and partner organizations.

The Research Space Committee proposes research space guidelines for BCCHR, makes recommendations on issues of space management, assists in the allocation and re-allocation of space to meet strategic requirements, and undertakes annual reviews of existing space allocations to ensure optimal space utilization.

Room Booking

The Oak Street campus has a wide variety of facilities available for your event or meeting, with the capacity to accommodate groups ranging in size from six to 200.

Meeting rooms are available for members of the BCCHR research community, as well as for guests to the Oak Street campus who wish to host an event at our facility. Members of the BCCHR research community can find more information on ResearchHub. All room booking-related questions can be directed to rooms@bcchr.ca.

Research Support Portal — Facilities

If you are a BCCHR research community member, use the Research Support Portal — Facilities to request Research Facilities services.

Research Facilities services accessible through the Support Portal include emergency freezer booking and freezer monitoring; key, phone, and photo ID requests; building maintenance including electrical, temperature/thermostat, plumbing, wall mounting, etc.; equipment purchase, repair, or disposal; request for space or moves; housekeeping; and more.
