I am involved in perioperative research that aims to improve evidence-based medicine in pediatric anesthesia. My previous work includes writing Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland consensus statement on one-hour clear fasting time for children undergoing elective surgery. This has been adopted internationally. I am a peer reviewer of the British Journal of Anaesthesia. I have also been the principal investigator on projects in medical education and clinical anesthesia.

Current Research Projects
I am currently a co-PI on two projects at BC Children’s and am aiming to act as join a multi-center international perioperative outcomes project. The projects include MRI findings in children with Rett Syndrome and evaluating perioperative guidelines for physiological targets during the management of pediatric patients undergoing renal transplantation.
The impact of myofascial dysfunction on chronic pain: Q&A with Dr. Gillian Lauder and Nicholas West
During National Pain Awareness Week, we sat down with BCCHR researchers to discuss myofascial dysfunction and pain. Myofascial dysfunction makes it hard for soft tissues to move as they normally would, may lead to chronic pain, and is often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
