Overview

Dr. Ting is an early career researcher and medical educator. He is currently studying the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients who present to the Emergency Department, as well as on the mental well-being of frontline healthcare providers. He also aims to better describe the knowledge translation process for physicians in an era of rapid information distribution through social media.

Research

Understanding Burnout Among Pediatric Emergency Physicians During COVID-19
This project aims to understand the longitudinal effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on burnout rates of pediatric emergency physicians over the third wave. We aim to identify factors that may promote wellness and prevent burnout.

Vaccine Effectiveness of Variants of Concern in British Columbia
As SARS-CoV-2 variants have led to successive waves of the pandemic, it is important for us to better understand the effectiveness of Health Canada approved vaccines against these novel strains in preventing severe COVID-19, as well as the duration of protection. This test-negative study uses data from the three largest British Columbia sites that participate in the Canadian COVID-19 Emergency Department Rapid Response Network (CCEDRRN). We hope these results will help inform global vaccine strategy when supply is limited.

The Journal Club 3.0: a new educational paradigm in the era of open educational resources
The journal club has been a signature method to understand new scientific evidence for decades. In this qualitative study, we describe an emerging phenomenon where the rise of Open Educational Resources on the internet has transformed the journal club experience for resident physicians.
