More than 7,000 Canadian children live with Crohn’s disease or colitis and the incidence of Crohn’s in Canadian kids under 10 has doubled since 1995. Dr. Nadine Provençal, investigator at BC Children’s Hospital and assistant professor at Simon Fraser University, along with researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Germany have identified a “cellular memory” that could help explain how fetal exposure to stress during pregnancy affects how we respond to stress exposure later in life.
