Every year more than 5,000 children in BC between the ages of 0 – 14 years are diagnosed with a concussion. From baseball games, to school sports days and neighbourhood play dates, concussions can happen wherever kids are active and exploring.
On May 7, 100 students and their teachers from northeastern BC took part in a day of hands on science hosted by BC Children’s Hospital and the First Nations Healthy Authority at Mini Med School Fort St. John.
An average of 900 BC children and teens are hospitalized each year due to sports-related injuries. A new website is working to change this by giving parents, kids, coaches and teachers easy access to injury prevention information for over 50 popular sports and recreational activities, including soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, ice hockey, kayaking, hiking and snowboarding.
