Summer Studentship Application

For students who are interested in participating in the Summer Student Research Program and are seeking a salary to support their research placement.

There are three types of applications for the Summer Student Research Program (SSRP):

The Summer Student Research Program is intended for students with limited research experience who are looking to build foundational research skills. It may not be the best fit for students with extensive prior research experience.

The information below applies to the Summer Studentship Application.

Application Details

Summer Studentships provide salary funding for an 8, 10, or 12-week research placement between May and August.

Awards are offered to highly ranked applicants based on:

  • Academic achievement
  • Scientific merit of the proposed research project
  • The potential learning opportunities and benefits the applicant will gain from the experience


Studentship recipients are automatically enrolled in the Summer Student Research Program, and expected to complete at least 8 hours of the education program activities by 11:59 pm on Friday, July 23, 2027.

How to Apply

Step #1: Secure a Research Placement

Before applying, you must independently secure an eligible research placement with a BCCHR Investigator.

BCCHR does not maintain a centralized list of available research placements. We encourage you to reach out to multiple BCCHR Investigators whose research aligns with your interests, as opportunities vary across research teams each year.

Step #2: Review the Application Guidelines

    The Participant Agreement confirms the program requirements and asks students and supervisors to commit to actively participating throughout the summer. BCCHR invests significant time, funding, and resources in each student, and program spaces are limited. We ask for students and supervisors to honour this commitment by being prepared to fully engage in the program.

UBC’s Research Project Information Form (RPIF) is not required at the time of application. If funding is awarded, the supervisor will be required to submit an RPIF to establish the award.

Step #3: Submit your Application

The deadline for applying is Friday, January 22, 2027 at 11:59 pm.
