Funded by BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Mini Med School Scholarships supports students interested in science, medicine, and health research

What does the scholarship include?

Selected students for the scholarship will receive –

  • $1,000 CAD to support tuition at any post-secondary institution
  • An optional one-week in-person career placement at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Monday, July 5 to Friday, July 9, 2027. This is a research-based career placement. You will not be interacting with patients or be involved in clinical care.


To participate in the career placement, you must:

  • Live in the Lower Mainland or have access to housing in the Lower Mainland during the placement (housing and transportation are not included)
  • Be at least 16 years of age as of July 1, 2027 to meet minimum safety standards for a healthcare facility

Who can apply?

To apply you must:

  • Be a grade 12 student enrolled in the 2026 Mini Med School – Inside the Human Body
  • Attend all the Mini Med School 2026 sessions in November (attendance for sessions will be tracked by program organizers)


There is no minimum GPA required to apply. However, this is a competitive scholarship program. Last year, more than 60 students applied.

How do you apply?

A complete application package includes:

  1. Mini Med School Scholarship Application Form – Coming soon!
  2. High School Transcript – Your most recent grades from either your school or the BC Ministry of Education
  3. Resume
  4. Recommendation letter from a teacher at your school (1-2 pages long)
  5. Short Essay (500 words or less) – Identify one topic area that was introduced in this series (Mini Med School 2026 – Inside the Human Body) which was particularly captivating for you. Identify the key questions that the presentation led you to ask and describe what you have learned in attempting to answer these questions on your own.

Application deadline

The application must be submitted by Friday, January 8, 2027 at 11:59 pm.

How are applications reviewed?

3 scholarships will be awarded. Applications will be reviewed based on:

  • Scholarly success: Academic achievement, awards and honours
  • Community engagement: Volunteer services, work experience and extracurricular achievements
  • Mini Med School Scholarship application form and essay
  • Reference letter from a teacher
