Congratulations to BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) and Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI) investigators and their teams who were awarded funding through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Fall 2025 Project Grant competition.

BCCHR received $4,951,750 in new research grants, including six Project Grants and four Priority Announcement grants.

Dr. Danya Fast Evidence to Innovation
BCCHR co-investigators: Dr. Matthew Carwana, Dr. Roberto Sassi
Project: “Adapting, producing, and testing a youth overdose prevention toolkit through community-based participatory methods.
Funding amount: $405,449 over three years

Dr. Wendy Robinson – Healthy Starts
BCCHR co-investigators: Dr. Caitlin Chang, Dr. Jefferson Terry
Project: “Placental genetic and epigenetic changes linked to congenital heart defects.
Funding amount: $703,800 over five years

Dr. Kirk Schultz – Childhood Diseases
Project: Chronic graft-versus-host disease polyomic profiling as predictive biomarker patterns to guide therapy.
Funding amount: $1,300,500 over five years

Dr. Bruce Vallance – Childhood Diseases
Project: “Mid-colon goblet cells: Primary source of the protective colonic mucus barrier.
Funding amount: $100,000 over one year

Dr. Stuart Turvey, Dr. Catherine Biggs – Healthy Starts
BCCHR co-investigators: Dr. Bhavi Modi
Project: “Discovering new human inborn errors of immunity.
Funding amount: $100,000 over one year

Project: “Ten years of changes to maritime abortion incidence and access: A multiple methods study.
Funding amount: $344,250 over three years

Project: “Long-term follow-up study of NOVA-HIV: Nonavalent HPV Vaccination in women living with HIV.
