My research interests are focused on improving outcomes and quality of care for children with rheumatic disease. I am currently involved in a study evaluating disparities in care in juvenile arthritis based on place of residence through collaboration with the Canadian Alliance for Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators. I am also leading a clinical trial at BC Children’s Hospital evaluating a new treatment for children with systemic lupus erythematosus, enabling access to medication that would otherwise not be available for our patients.

Assessment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis outcomes and place of residence in Canada: identifying disparities in care
This is multicentre project aimed at identifying disparities in care for JIA based on geographic location. This is collaborative project utilizing the CAPRI JIA Registry. The second half of this project is focused on identifying one modifiable factor at each treatment site that could improve outcomes for children living with JIA.Phase III, Randomized, Double-blind, Parallel-group, Placebo-controlled Study to Evaluate the Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, Efficacy, and Safety of IV Anifrolumab in Pediatric Participants with Moderate to Severe Active SLE
Anifrolumab is a Type I interferon receptor antagonist that has been shown to be effective adjuvant therapy for adult patients with moderate to severe Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in previous trials. This purpose of this clinical trial is to determine to safety and efficacy of this novel treatment in children with SLE who have ongoing moderate to severe disease activity despite receiving standard of care therapy. Anifrolumab has significant potential to improve the quality of life in children with SLE and this trial provides access to this medication that would otherwise not be available for several years.GrantsCo-Principle Investigator.
