Do you already have an established funding source, or will be volunteering with a research team? Externally funded students are students who have other sources of funding for the summer. This may include non-BCCHR summer student awards, funded co-op/directed study positions, international placements or research team funded positions.
- Intended Audience
-
To decide if the Summer Student Research Program is right for you, consider the following:
- The program curriculum is meant to cover a variety of research topics and skills on an introductory level. Students with more advanced research experience may find the content too simplified.
- The majority of the activities/sessions will be hosted in-person at BCCHR. While some sessions may be available virtually and/or recorded, this format cannot always be guaranteed.
- To be eligible to receive a program certificate of completion and/or present at SSRP Poster Day, registered participants must meet an attendance requirement of at least 5 sessions in June and at least 5 sessions in July.
- Students who participated in the SSRP in previous years can apply again, but may find some of the content similar or repetitive.
- For students who applied for the Summer Studentship but were not successful in receiving funding, they can still apply for the program curriculum with the application below (given the eligibility criteria is still met).
- Eligibility Criteria
-
- The applicant must be an undergraduate or medical student completing a summer student research project on the Oak Street Campus. Please note: due to space restrictions, master's students and graduated undergraduate students who are not currently enrolled in a medical school program are not eligible to participate in the Summer Student Research Program.
- The primary supervisor must be a BCCHR Investigator at BC Children’s Hospital whose area of investigation has direct relevance to improving the health of children and families. Affiliate Investigators are not eligible as per the BCCHR membership guidelines.
- The applicant's summer start/end date allows for active participation in the Summer Student Research Program education curriculum. To meet the attendance requirement, students must attend at least 5 sessions in June and at least 5 sessions in July.
- Out-of-province and international applicants are welcome to apply.
