Current Projects

I am currently working towards identifying biomarkers which could ultimately lead to the development of a test for early diagnosis of amniotic fluid infection syndrome (AFI). AFI involves acute inflammation of placental tissue surrounding the fetus typically and leads to preterm labor with significant risk of adverse health complications and mortality. Early detection may improve outcome.

The role of bacterial triggers in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease is another area of interest and I am presently developing an in situ assay for identification of potential trigger organisms in archival gastrointestinal tissue biopsies.

I am also involved in a collaborative study investigating the application of a novel ultrasonography technique to improve intrauterine detection of placental lesions.
