Role of the Reference

References are asked to:

  • Download Part #1: Ratings Form & Part #2: Ratings Justification for the applicable reference report below
  • Provide an assessment of the candidate's skills and abilities by completing Part 1: Ratings Form. 
  • Provide a written statement to justify your assessment for each category by completing Part 2: Ratings Justification. When writing your statement, please provide specific details regarding the recognized or potential research abilities of the candidate. 

The reference report will be used by the BC Children's Hospital Research Awards Committee when assessing the candidate's application for funding. Funding is highly competitive and references make up 20% of a candidate's final score. 

Downloading the Reference Report

Please note, the completed reference report must be submitted by the application deadline date. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Click the link below to download the applicable reference report. Reference reports can either be completed as a Word Document or PDF. For the PDF, please download the form to complete the reference report. 

Submitting the Reference Report

Reference Reports can be submitted using the online awards portal. The candidate WILL NOT have access to the reference report. Only the BC Children's Hospital Research Awards Committee and administrative team will have access to the submitted reference report. 

  • The candidate will enter your information as part of their application form. You will receive an email (Subject - BC Children's Hospital Research Institute recommendation request from <Name>) with your individualized link for submitting the reference report. 
  • Click the link and select 'Begin Recommendation'
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Upload a PDF' to upload a copy of the reference report. Please do note type or paste a letter of recommendation. 
  • Click 'Send' to submit the reference report. You will receive an on-screen message that the recommendation has been submitted. The candidate will receive an email notification that the reference report has been submitted.
