Vaccines and Me will identify vaccine knowledge gaps among BC children and youth aged 11 to 18. The purpose of this study is to explore what youth in BC know and think about vaccines, and where they get vaccine information from. The study findings will help us create an online website (hub) of vaccine resources and tools that can increase vaccine knowledge and confidence for youth.
What does the project entail?
- Identifying vaccine knowledge gaps via surveys, interviews, and a literature review – A systematic literature review is being conducted to gather information on vaccine attitudes and perspectives expressed by youth. In addition, we are conducting interviews and surveys with BC youth to assess their attitudes and knowledge on vaccines.
- Development of an online vaccine resource hub for youth – An online hub will be created using data gathered from the environmental scan and with input from the project’s steering committee and youth partners. The online hub will host vaccine information, resources, and tools for youth to address vaccine knowledge gaps.

Why are we doing the study?
While some studies have explored youth perspectives on specific vaccines, such as the COVID-19 and HPV vaccines, few have examined their views on vaccines more generally. We are also interested in exploring how youth obtain vaccine-related information, as information sources play a crucial role in shaping perceptions and choices regarding vaccination.
Who can participate?
Youth ages 11-18 who live in British Columbia, Canada are invited to participate in this study.
Please note that you do not need to receive any vaccines or have received any vaccines in the past for this study. There is no cost to participants if they join the study.
What does the study involve?
Eligible youth are invited to take a 5-10 minute survey for a chance to win $100, or one of three $50 cash prizes. Completion of the full survey is required to be entered for the draw. The survey will be available soon.
Eligible youth can also participate in 30-minute Zoom or telephone interviews. Participants will be compensated $50 for their participation. Please email us at ktvec@bcchr.ca if you are interested in taking part in the interviews.
